Caption: Is Landon Donovan trying to prove his worth against the world's best players by moving to Everton?

The LA Galaxy announced today that Landon Donovan will go on loan to Everton for two months. Speculation of a London move began to brew when Landon Donovan sent an unusual tweet earlier in the day.

"Once a Toffee, always a Toffee," said Landon at approximaley 9:45 am ET.

Donovan spent the winter before the World Cup on loan with the Merseysiders scoring two goals in 13 games and picking up Everton’s Player of the Month award for January, 2010.

The MLS Cup MVP will be available for selection starting with the Toffees home match against Bolton on January 4th. Donovan’s last game with Everton will be the Merseyside Derby against Liverpool at the end of February.

Here are the 8 possible Premier League matches Donovan can feature in....

Jan 4th: Bolton Wanderers @ Everton
Jan 11th: Everton @ Tottenham Hotspurs
Jan 14th: Everton @ Aston Villa
Jan 21st: Blackburn Rovers @ Everton
Feb 1st: Man City @ Everton
Feb 4th: Everton @ Wigan Athletic
Feb 11th: Chelsea @ Everton
Feb 25th: Everton @ Liverpool

Donovan has already showed that he can thrive in England, so he has little to prove this time around. Sure he failed in Germany, but the UBER-physical
nuances of the German game never suited his style, especially back then when he was young and immature.

This is no doubt a solid move for a wonderful player on an individual level. Donovan's loan move is also perfect for the US National Team ahead of World Cup Qualifying, as Landon can stay in top form playing against elite EPL talent.

I have to wonder though, how much of this move was pre-determined and how much of this was a reaction to Brad Friedel’s comments? It is rumored that the MLS and Everton only negotiated for 72 hours before a deal was made.
